Well, here is my first ever blog post. I’m starting this blog as an attempt to help me get organised, my thinking being that if I am sitting down to write about what I’ve accomplished then surely that in itself will give me some motivation to actually get something done. Here’s hoping, anyway!

At the moment I am living in a house the size of a roomy shoebox with my DP and DS. The current recession means that up sizing to more suitable accommodation is a complete non starter, so my only option to try to restore some sense of peace and harmony to our home is to get organised. We seem to suffer from that affliction which affects so many people nowadays of simply having too much stuff and not enough space to put it. Now, don’t get me wrong , I’m not quite at the stage where I need to go on How Clean Is Your House, but I could definitely do with stepping up my cleaning routine and maybe getting rid of some of the clutter that is filling up every available storage space we have.

My first step to getting organised has been to sign up to a website called FlyLady.net. The FlyLady system (which is free to join)encourages you to get clean and organised by sending you emails throughout the day which remind you to do your housework. So far this seems like it might actually work for me. I am a terrible procrastinator, and have been known to waste inordinate amounts of time surfing the net when I should be doing other things. For example when DS takes his daily nap I always think ‘Right I’ll get tidied up now, just as soon as I’ve checked my email.’ Then suddenly an hour has passed, DS is up and I’ve spent the whole of my free hour on the net. Maybe finding lots of emails reminding me to put a load of washing in or make my bed will be the kick start I need. If anyone else has tried the FlyLady technique I’d love to hear your comments on whether or not this has worked for you.
